“Grizzly Adams” may be in the same class as “Weekend at Bernie’s”, but I’ll be damned if Zelig is, as you claim in that first link. Zelig’s got a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes! (OK, you wrote that piece over a decade ago so maybe times, and more importantly critical opinions, have changed. But I don’t think either has changed that much.)
I’ve never actually seen Zelig, so who knows, maybe you’re right! But, to change the subject slightly . . . what we really need is for Woody to direct a movie starring Bill Cosby. That would be some serious box office: two of the premier comedians of the late twentieth century, together for the first time!

Holy crap I’ve been reading this blog for a DECADE!
I remember seeing Zelig. The only thing I remember about it is thinking, “Huh?” afterward — otherwise, it’s very unmemorable.
I was going to make this exact comment
Set it in the Swiss Alps so you could have a Roman Polanski cameo like in Rush Hour 3, and you’ve got yourself a masterpiece.
A Miramax production.
