This is Leo. Jonah Gabry (Stan developer, Andrew’s collaborator, etc.) is spending the whole month of May as a visiting professor here with us at the University of Trieste in Italy. Tomorrow, May 19th, in the De Finetti room at the University of Trieste, at 9 am NYC time (GMT-4), Jonah will give the following talk:
“Bayesian Workflow and the Software That Shapes It”
based on the upcoming book: “Bayesian Workflow”.
For anyone local, you are welcome to come in person. Anyone else can join on Microsoft Teams (available here).
Leo:
That sounds great! Can you post the talk on youtube after?
Yeah! We’re going to try to record it. When I have the link I can share it and/or we can update the blog post.
Any update on this?
Is there a digital version of the book? I pretty much never buy paper copies anymore — too hard to transport a large physical library, and it’s a pain to get books shipped to Paraguay where I’m living now.
With regard to your Substack on Kahn’s 1967 list, a book you might like to pick up is the 1983 Omni Future Almanac. My best friend got it as a birthday gift in ’83. It has predictions all the way out to 2050. Some things were wildly optimistic, but others were pretty good.
Richard:
Related is my Omni-related post from last year, I. J. Good corner: The flying Venus flytrap and other partly-baked ideas.
