RAND was established almost 70 years ago to strengthen public policy through research and analysis. Over seven decades, our research teams have answered the difficult questions and generated actionable insights by combining the very best analytical tools and methods with a distinct, interdisciplinary approach. RAND Statisticians have exciting opportunities to collaborate on multidisciplinary teams, to develop statistical methodology to advance policy research, and to lead research projects. There are also opportunities to teach in the Pardee RAND Graduate School. The typical RAND project poses novel statistical challenges in design, sampling, measurement, modeling, analysis, and computing. Recent examples of RAND statisticians’ innovations in policy research include development of new methods to evaluate pay-for-performance programs in education and healthcare, nonresponse weighting methods using high-dimensional data to reduce bias in prevalence estimates of sexual assault and harassment, and new analytic approaches for cyber security. The RAND Statistics group currently includes 15 Ph.D. statisticians and 16 master’s-level statisticians providing a collegial and nurturing environment.
