Statistician positions at RAND

I am asking for your help in identifying qualified candidates for Ph.D. Statistician openings at the RAND Corporation with multiple location options (Santa Monica, CA, Washington, DC, Pittsburgh, PA, and Boston, MA).

RAND was established almost 70 years ago to strengthen public policy through research and analysis. Over seven decades, our research teams have answered the difficult questions and generated actionable insights by combining the very best analytical tools and methods with a distinct, interdisciplinary approach. RAND Statisticians have exciting opportunities to collaborate on multidisciplinary teams, to develop statistical methodology to advance policy research, and to lead research projects. There are also opportunities to teach in the Pardee RAND Graduate School. The typical RAND project poses novel statistical challenges in design, sampling, measurement, modeling, analysis, and computing. Recent examples of RAND statisticians’ innovations in policy research include development of new methods to evaluate pay-for-performance programs in education and healthcare, nonresponse weighting methods using high-dimensional data to reduce bias in prevalence estimates of sexual assault and harassment, and new analytic approaches for cyber security. The RAND Statistics group currently includes 15 Ph.D. statisticians and 16 master’s-level statisticians providing a collegial and nurturing environment. Please visit the RAND Statistics Group website, www.rand.org/statistics, for more information about the group and its members.

We welcome applications from recent graduates, postdoctoral fellows, mid-level and senior candidates. Interested candidates should apply online at www.rand.org/jobs (click on “Find a Job” and search for the “Statistician” position). Application packet should include a cover letter, CV, statement of research interests and consulting experience, and writing sample as pdf documents. Graduate transcripts (if degree received after 2015) and three letters of recommendation should be sent to [email protected]. Strong communication skills are essential. Review of applications will begin in mid-October; complete applications received by December 16, 2019, will receive priority consideration.

In addition to Ph.D. positions, our Summer Associate Program is a great opportunity for doctoral students to conduct applied statistical research on public policy issues. Summer Associate applications will be accepted from October 15, 2019, through December 4, 2019. Information about summer positions is available at www.rand.org/about/edu_op/fellowships/gsap.

I don’t know anything about these particular positions, but they do good work at RAND.
