Good takedown by Henry Grabar of some garbage reporting by Buzzfeed. This will be a great example in any of your statistics classes. Measurement and data quality are super important but are typically ignored in statistics classes and in statistical practice as well. This is a clean and accessible example.
Disappointing to see Buzzfeed getting conned like this by fake statistics. When it happens to the New York Times or the Wall Street Journal, that’s bad enough, but I expect better from Buzzfeed. They do good work at Buzzfeed sometimes!
Measurement, data quality and the lessons learned in psychometrics are having to be learned all over again in the land rush fields of ML/AI/DL, etc.
