They’re playing My Morning Jacket on the radio. I think Off the Record sounds just like the Ramones, but nobody agrees with me. Please tell me I’m not insane.

Sorry, really don’t see it.
It does if you speed it up in your head.
Sorry, you’re on your own on that one.
Andrew: I had to reach for this one. Distant, indirect, potential support for your intuition in the form of a brief comment posted 8 years ago about My Morning Jacket’s recording of “Out of My System”, which characterized it as “Channeling The Who….with the Ramones for sauce. Makes the album title relevant, anyway.”

I never would have got there on my own, but sure, if I listen for it I can hear it. Particularly When he’s singing “right right right” or the actual words “off the record.”
Once you make such a connection it can be hard to shake it. Several years ago, radios near me were playing “Booty City” by Black Joe Lewis and I couldn’t hear the horn part without thinking about the intro to CBC’s “As It Happens” (which turns out to be called “Curried Soul” by Moe Koffman).

Definitely sounds like something that could go in a skateboarding game. Close enough!
