From the Stan forums: “I’m just very thirsty to learn and this thread has become a fountain of knowledge”

The discussions are great, and anyone can jump in. Lots of example code and all sorts of things.

Also of interest: the Stan case studies.

  1. It’s a fire hose of information on modeling and on Stan development and the downstream interfaces like brms and loo and rstanarm. It’s up to about a thread an hour, but also check out how much back and forth there is. Even so, lots of posts go unanswered. It’s hard to jump in when someone has a complicated model to fit, data, and is having some kind of problem. Crisp clean questions or provocative bikeshed issues get lots of traction, as usual.

    • It’s like stack overflow, but somehow even nerdier. The same lessons apply, clearly articulated questions probably get more answers, but also, I find that just the act of going through the effort to describe my problem clearly on the forum will result in me figuring out my issue on my own. Nothing wrong with answering your own question. Someone else might find it useful.
