Hey—condensed matter theory! That’s what I used to work on, back when I was a physics student. Decades ago, we did an experiment where we demonstrated superheating of silicon. It can get really hot inside the solid but not liquefy, if the crystal is defect-free so there’s no good place for the melting to start.
