Simone de Beauvoir (2) vs. Chris Rock (3); Wood advances

You guys keep making it tough for me! Yesterday I was strongly rooting for Turing—really, I have no interest in seeing Ed Wood speak at all, and if he ever makes into the finals against John Waters he’ll just get destroyed—but Anonymous wins the thread with the very first comment:

I vote against Turing — he might just send a computer pretending to be him, and no one would be able to tell the difference.

Today’s contest is fun. Simone’s the first modern feminist, and Chris Rock has had a lot to say about men and women (“Deny everything”). It would be cool to have a panel with the two of them. But, no, the rules say, only one of them can advance. Who’s it gonna be?

P.S. As always, here’s the background, and here are the rules.

  1. Rock can pretty much take any position on almost any issue (e.g. his defense of bullying), so he’s likely to provide surprises. Simone, not so much.

  2. This is a really nice photo of Rock and his wife, IMHO.

Though I’d be interested if Simone de Beauvoir speaks the way I imagine: smoking through a cigarette holder and singing Lili Marleen. Though, of course, it’s somewhat unfortunate that I have Marlene Dietrich in my mind’s eye whenever de Beauvoir’s name is mentioned.
