I’m still wondering . . .

Why can’t I buy train and plane tickets through Amazon? That would be so much more convenient than the current system where I have to keep entering information into the damn forms over and over again.

  1. Sorry I don’t have a link but I remember an interview (Probably Marketplace or All things) where they explained the complicated and restrictive agreements travel sites operate under. I suspect Amazon won’t go along with all these conditions.

  2. I do note that Amazon totally transformed how easy it is to use Kickstarter, for example. I am also more comfortable with internet payment via a well recognized company that has a lot to lose via fraud. Many people like paypal for this exact reason as well, but I am much more firmly entrenched in the Amazon eco-system.

  3. What do you mean by “buy tickets through Amazon” though? If you just mean make a payment via Amazon once you have sorted out the ticket you want on site X, that seems trivial. If you mean you want to go to Amazon search for, compare and then buy a ticket, I can think of several reasons why not.

    • Dan,

This may be “trivial” to you but I don’t know how to do it. Every time I want to buy a ticket on Amtrak I need to re-enter credit card information etc. There’s no Amazon-like way to just click through and buy what I want. No huge deal but it still seems like a bit of an unncecessary pain in the ass.

      • I meant trivial to implement on the part of the web designers, not us meager users…. I use airline site where they store info like this so its just a matter of being logged in. Definitely worthwhile if it is a regular purchase.

  4. There is software around (I use some called LastPass) that will automatically fill in a form on a browser with one click. It works across all sites (not just a single supplier) and I find it very effective. I have no link with any software organisation.
