I went to this place a few months ago after it was reviewed in the Times and I was not impressed at all. Not that I’m any kind of authority on barbecue, this just makes me aware of variation in assessments. Food criticism is like personality profiling in psychometrics: there is no objective truth to measure; any meaningful evaluation is inherently statistical.
Would you say that it is overrated?

Yes, I agree. Personality profiles are similar. There can be a general agreement that a person has certain traits. Thus, those traits have some meaning, at the very least in terms of perceptions. But they cannot be measured directly.
One of the commenters points out that it’s funny to say that a place is in “the middle of nowhere” if it served by two subway lines.
Also conveniently accessible by bike. Too bad I didn’t like the food.
