I recommend The Wisdom of Crowds by Surowiecki, to get in on the thinking behind crowdsourcing. It's a quick read. You could be done in a day or so, especially if you were traveling.
These appear to be prototypes, not operational systems.
Note the registration email has an unexpanded template in it.
My guess is that these are for a proposal or a work in progress. Leaving them open was probably ill-advised.
