Half-time research associate position in NYC

This was forwarded to me. I have no connection with the project but it looks like something that could be of interest to a statistics or quantitative social science student.

The Howard Samuels Center (HSC) is seeking to hire a part time (20hrs/wk) Research Associate. The position comes with an excellent benefits package and competitive salary.

The HSC has become an important source of political analysis and policy evaluation in the field of comparative state and urban research, with an emphasis on education, economic development, and welfare policies. The HSC also studies advocacy and community organizing and serves the growing need for research in these areas.

Research Associates are responsible for research and analysis relating to existing funded projects as well as developing grant proposals for projects relevant to the Center. This position also requires an advanced knowledge of the quantitative methods and statistical analysis used in the social sciences. The applicant must demonstrate competence with major statistical software packages such as SPSS, STATA or SAS. Knowledge of both descriptive and multivariate statistics including multiple regression is required. Experience working with and managing large scale databases, especially census datasets, is preferred. Familiarity with Microsoft Excel is a plus. The candidate must be comfortable working in an interdisciplinary and collaborative setting.

Responsibilities:
• Perform research tasks as assigned
• Assist staff in designing statistical analytical approaches and strategies
• Organize and maintain the Center’s state-level statistical databases
• Perform statistical analyses and ready output tables for reports
• Write up results of statistical analyses
• Assist in grant writing
